Revelation 5:

Verse 5: "Then one of the elders said to me, 'Weep not; lo, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered, so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals.'"

Jesus said that he was the root and offspring of David. "I Jesus have sent my angel to you with this testimony for the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, the bright morning star." (Rev. 22:16)

As it was Jesus that gave this revelation, in this Book of Revelation—and that he is "the root and offspring of David"—he on his second coming only can give the explanation.
